How good is it? They have a deal going on where a few of their 'little' plugins are going for $10 to support the Rubicon group of military vets who go into disaster areas and help clean up and rebuild things. Also all proceeds from sales of other plugins go to the group as well. Have my eye on the Phase Mistress and Filter Freak and can only buy one. I sent their sales support a question yesterday asking this: does the Biphase model have independent controls of both sections of the phaser like the real one does? No answer back from them and the deal goes dead at midnight ET.

I demoed the plugin a while back and don't remember the answers to my questions. Does anybody know the answer? Specifically asking about those as I worked for Musitronics when they were on the farm up in Rosemont NJ back in the 70's. Did final test and repair on both the envelope follower and phaser and had a little bit of a hand in the development on the Biphase. Major test equipment back then besides the usual was a Strat & Twin Reverb.

I've spoke to soundtoys a few times regarding support and they have always been spot on with getting back to me. An excellent customer service company in my opinion

They may be but they sure aren't answering their emails even though they say that's one way to get in touch with them. My question(s) are more than can be answered by a phone call. Either way around I've given up on purchasing from them right now.

My experience is that they are great! Easy to speak to.. It's been a while..

Again it may be but according to this page on their site: arenaqq.us they prefer contacting them through email so they have a paper trail and I concur as I've had too many problems with businesses in the past when I just called them. Too many things get lost in the communication. Also it's a long-distance call to Vermont and that ain't cheap especially if you're spending more than a couple of minutes on the line (landline in my case - and I don't have a cell phone strange as it seems).

Great company that makes some really amazing plugins. I started out with a couple $10 plugs on special and ended up with the collection.

Ditto

Don't think you'll regret your purchase Jack, (apart from maybe wanting more of their plugs)!

I have the whole suite & use them regularly on every session, (although Echoboy & Filterfreak probably get the most usage). Phasemistress is a great phaser, but if I had to buy one Soundtoys plugin, it wouldn't be my first choice.

As for their customer service never had a problem, but I guess they've been pretty busy with all those $10 deals, (it is a good cause after all, & I don't see many other Devs doing the same) ;)

I already have EchoBoy - got it at the last sale they had. Didn't have the funds at the time or I could have gotten into the whole collection for cheap at that time due to having EB.

Maybe you can answer the question: does the Biphase style in PhaseMistress have independent control of both phasor sections like the real hardware has? That's important to me.

Does this help answer your question?

musicman

Does this help answer your question?
Thanks but no it doesn't answer the question. It only shows the Biphase as a style choice and that's it. I'm thinking that Phase Mistress can't truly do the Biphase like the hardware did which is what are essentially two separate phasor sections in one box. The original had different ways of routing the sections (parallel/serial). Yeah I'm being obsessive with this but hey when you've worked with the prototype in the lab shame I left before they finalized the unit.

Soundtoys 5 brings together our entire range of audio effects into one powerful collection. Includes all 21 Soundtoys plug-ins. See the full list.

Saturate, compress, and distort with Decapitator, Radiator, and Devil-Loc. Get a virtual history of echo and delay hardware with EchoBoy and PrimalTap. Transform your vocals with Little AlterBoy. Recreate classic studio pitch, chorus and widening effects with Crystallizer and MicroShift. Take modulation to new levels with the beat-synced rhythmic effects of PanMan, Tremolator, FilterFreak, and PhaseMistress.

All of these individual elements are proven, powerful tools, trusted by professional mix engineers, musicians and sound designers everywhere. But combined in the Soundtoys Effect Rack, they are indeed the ultimate effects collection.

Soundtoys 5
Soundtoys 5

The new Soundtoys Effect Rack is the centerpiece of Soundtoys 5. It turns a tried-and-true collection of powerful individual plug-ins into a virtually unlimited creative multi-effects system.

The Effect Rack makes it simple to build your own custom effect chains and define your signature sound. And when you’ve created the perfect combination of effects, the Rack’s global controls let you treat the whole rack as a single plug-in.

Lock rhythmic effects to a single tempo, or let them run free. Fine tune the input and output levels, and use the global mix control to blend your effect in with the dry signal. Then experiment with the powerful new global Recycle control. By mixing the output of the rack back into the input, you can build your own modulated reverbs, over-the-top delays and other unique ambience effects that would require complicated routing to accomplish in most DAWs.

Work Smarter

The Effect Rack integrates 14 individual Soundtoys effects into a single plug-in, which improves workflow by displaying an entire custom effect processing chain at once. You won’t need to juggle multiple plug-in windows to adjust parameters, add new effects, or change their routing. The Effect Rack keeps everything right at your fingertips.

*Effect Rack includes Crystallizer, Decapitator, Devil-Loc Deluxe, EchoBoy, EchoBoy Jr., FilterFreak, FilterFreak 2, MicroShift, PanMan, PhaseMistress, PrimalTap, Radiator, Sie-Q, and Tremolator.

Choose from our range of carefully-crafted presets to find the perfect jumping-off point. Or quickly design, save and recall combinations of your favorite Soundtoys effects—all in one self-contained plug-in.

Outer Limits is a FREEcollection of 67 presets designed to turn any audio into strange and frightening sounds, spacey sci-fi soundscapes, and mutated audio oddities.

You no longer need to use a hardware dongle. Set yourself free to work wherever, and however you want.

With computer-based authorization, free up precious USB ports for audio interfaces and MIDI controllers. Studio pros can still use Soundtoys 5 with their iLok USB keys to manage all of their plug-in licenses. All Soundtoys 5 plug-ins come with two activations. Use one at the studio, and the other on your home machine or laptop.

We pride ourselves on building simple, elegant effects that give you instant inspiration. But when you’re ready to go beyond the basics we also let you open the hood and get some grease on your hands.

Soundtoys 5

Slide open an effect’s Tweak panel to access special circuit-level controls. Or design your own unique modulation patterns.

Many Soundtoys effects offer special Tweak panels which expose deeper editing features. Here you can find advanced options for a plug-in, like a choice of saturation styles, fine control of an effect’s groove, or a selection of different delay algorithms. Our modulation effects offer powerful shape and rhythm editors here for creating complex motion. And in Soundtoys 5, we’ve redesigned our Tweak panels to make advanced controls easier to find and use.  The result: an incredibly customizable set of sonic tools that you’ll want to use on every project.

Effects that move to your rhythm. With any shape you can imagine.

An LFO (Low Frequency Oscillator) is at the heart of every modulation effect — it’s what gives tremolos, phasers, panners and sweeping filters their characteristic motion.

Our included library of LFO shapes goes far beyond standard modulation effects, giving you curves based on vintage modulation effects, amps and instruments as well as more abstract shapes. You can also draw and sculpt your own totally customized shapes using our Shape Editor. Use it to dream up new LFO shapes, from knife-edged waves to gently ebbing curves.

Our Rhythm Editor is like a rhythmic modulation sequencer. Choose a length (in bars) and the size of the steps you want to edit (sixteenth notes, eighth notes, quarter notes, etc), then start clicking to make a new pattern. You can turn individual steps on and off to create pauses or rests, and adjust the level and length of each step to humanize your pattern and give it some musical variation. You can even choose the number of beats per bar to create some funky syncopation or odd-time-signature grooves. Like our custom shapes, custom patterns are even swappable between plug-ins. And, of course, you can lock everything to the master tempo of the Soundtoys Effect Rack or your favorite DAW for solid, dead-simple synchronization.

Soundtoys 5
Soundtoys 5

We’ve spent the last decade creating one of the world’s greatest gear collections. That means we actually own and use the hardware we draw our inspiration from.

We look to the past for inspiration. But we build each of our plug-ins to stand solidly on its own with features designed for modern studios.

As a result, we’re happy to say that Soundtoys effects are used, trusted and recommended by professionals in all aspects of audio production. Now with Soundtoys 5 and the Effect Rack, we’ve brought all of these acclaimed effects together to see how much further they can go.

Quotes

&#;The team at Soundtoys have done a wonderful job with their plug-ins. They are really well thought out & beautifully designed. They are easy to use right out the gate, but they also offer a great degree of customization. The main thing is, they sound fantastic!  Soundtoys plug-ins are a part of every record that I make.&#; – Dave Tozer (Kanye West, John Legend, Justin Timberlake)

“Once you start using all of these plug-ins you find it hard to stop, you become dependent on them because they give you what you want!” – Tom Elmhirst (Adele, The Black Keys, Cee Lo Green, Florence & The Machine)

&#;I seriously don&#;t do a mix without at least different Soundtoys plug-ins. These effects allow me to be really creative with my mixes.&#; – Ryan Hewitt (Red Hot Chili Peppers, We Are Scientists, Sum 41, Avett Brothers)

&#;I use Soundtoys on every mix I do. Their plug-ins just work; that is it&#;s not a wrestling match to have them sonically sit in the mix in a musical way.&#; – Dave Pensado (Rick Ross, Macy Gray, T-Pain, Michael Jackson)

My studio has been down for about a year now though, so I haven't had much time to create. But I re-open in about a week. Very excited and can't wait to turn simple sounds into complex beings lol

If I wanted to go cheap with ST I'd buy the junior versions BUT the value is insane and everything they have is super deep and useful. Another point for them is some of their plug ins are older like Decapitator and Echoboy, and are still relevant. They sound great and I don't think "better" is coming out anytime soon!if ever

In addition if you already own some of them, it will be less than $, depending on how many you own.

I have always found Black Friday to be the best time for SoundToys.

I've bought Echoboy Jr. and Little plate. Both are totally worth the price. Echoboy Jr. is more than enough for basic and even beyond basic needs. Little plate is sort of a one trick pony. It does one thing, but it does it very good

I started with Soundtoys way back when they called themselves "wave mechanics" on my (long dead) pro tools tdm systems. They were building pretty sophisticated plugins back then, like "soundblender" and "timeblender" a predictor of things to come, but with not nearly the sound quality of today's native 5.

ST offers tremendous value and the potential for creativity in an easy-to-use package of several plugs - my only complaint is recent editions have been a little less stable, causing some crashes and broken functions on my PT system

Still highly recommended though.

They have the echo-pack on sale now for only 99 €. GREAT deal!

I've been using them for such a long time (loved their stuff from the days of PitchBlender and so on), and think the current bundle offering is a fantastic value. There are so many of them which are in my sessions that I hesitate to just name a couple. But I'd like to mention that when used judiciously Decapitator can be phenomenal to generate unusual textures for sound design.

No real problems using them recently (either aax or vst), very helpful features. Highly recommended.

I got a free Soundtoys plugin, think it was Little Plate. Sounded so good I just kept an eye out for their Flash Salesoccassionally I'd pick up on of their plugins for $5 here, $ there. Soon had about 6 or 7 of their small plugins. I then traded them in for a bundle upgrade when that was on 50% offall in all I reckon I paid $ over a couple of years.

I'm just a hobbyist, but for me, they are the best sounding plugins, along with Softube and Plugin Alliance. I have a Waves Gold bundle, and I don't even have it installed anymore.

you will like this today i found a file on my desktop a .au file sounded like it was playing fast so i thought, sample rate difference i tried different sample rates .. no change then for Laughs, i opened Little AlterBoy and started lowering the Formants .. yes, it fixed the issue never even thought that would work !!! cool plugins .. i have the bundle as well ..

I knows this thread is old as dirt. But the Crystalizer is an amazing plugin. I would say for electronic music, it will take your productions up a few notches.

And not just for electronic music. I've added Crystalizer mixed at semi-subliminal level to a lead guitar track on a sort of alt-folk project, and it brought just the right "I can't quite tell what it is, but it's MAGIC!"

I find it especially effective inserted just before a reverb plug on an aux send. Instant fairy dust.

Also, the high cut control is a secret weapon--with an aggressive high cut you can turn the sparkly crystals into more of a diffuse, pad-like shimmer.

Often when I use Little Plate, I use Echoboy Jr as my predelay.

Just FYI their effect rack is $99 right now. Grabbed it last night and it's really worth every penny.

I do have an issue in Ableton where Primal Tap and Radiator are showing blue boxes where some of the knobs should be. It's usable but not pretty. I opened a support ticket. The rest of the plugs work fine.

EchoBoy and Decapitator, in their duties, are actually the universal studio standards of the last decade.
They are the new U87 and of the plugin world.

Devil Loc is unmissable, especialy if you do lots of Rock drums.

All of them. If you like analog type effects you will like all of them. If I have a creative block or want something to make a particular track to stand out in a creative way I go straight to the Soundtoys folder.
